TAMPA - My first few years in the business, I had the pleasure of going around the camps each spring in the company of a legendary old baseball man named Frank (Trader) Lane, who imparted to me many nuggets of scouting advice I never forgot.
In particular, Lane said: “If you learn nothing else, it’s that you can’t ever put much stock in anything you see in spring training or September. They’re the two most dangerous times of the year for a scout.”
